ONLY ONE SACRIFICE
Jesus’ Death on Golgotha!

by Pastor Max Solbrekken, D.D.

“And the very God of Peace sanctify you wholly, and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is He that calleth. He will do it.” (1 Thes.5:23,24)

According to the Word of God that never fails, because of Jesus’ vicarious  (substitutionary) death for us, Almighty God sanctifies us wholly (totally) spirit, soul, and body blameless (perfect, pure, well) until He returns!

“How much more shall the Blood of Christ, who through the Eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, purge you’re your conscience from dead works to serve the Living God? ” (Heb.9:14)

ONLY JESUS’ BLOOD PURGES OUR CONSCIENCES

“For Christ is not entered into the Holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true, but into Heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us …So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” (Heb. 9:28)

“Then said He, Lo I come to do Thy will, O God, He taketh away the first, that He may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the Body of Jesus Christ, once for all.

“But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for Sins FOREVER, sat down on the Right Hand of God. For by ONE OFFERING, He hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.

“Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us; for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I  will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. (When God forgives a sin, it is pointless to keep asking for His forgiveness. His BLOOD has cleansed them away)

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh;

“And having a high priest over the House of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an Evil Conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.  Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised.” (Heb.10: 7-12,14,17-21,23)

THE BLOOD OF JESUS SPEAKS FORGIVENESS

The Bible says: “And to Jesus the Mediator of the New covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that  speaketh greater things than the blood of Abel.”  (Heb. 12:24) What does that tell us?

When Cain killed Abel, his blood cried out for REVENGE. God said to Cain: “What is this that thou hast done? The voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto Me from the ground.” (Gen.4:10) When Jesus hung on the Cross dying for our sins, He cried out, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)

The BLOOD of Jesus speaks of forgiveness, peace, healing, deliverance, and God’s blessings! His holy, pure, and perfect blood that was poured out for the human race, speaks our Rights in Christ which includes the forgiveness of sins, freedom from condemnation, fear, and demonic oppression. It speaks of divine healing from sickness and diseases. The Blood of Jesus speaks of deliverance, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost!

When we speak the Word of God and the promises of Jesus Christ in faith over ourselves and others, Satan must obey and depart from us! Sickness and disease will have to obey and depart and oppression must leave as we minister in the Name of Jesus Christ and plead the Blood of Jesus on those ministered unto.

The Bible states: “For this purpose, the Son of God was manifested that He might DESTROY the works of the Devil.” (1 John 3:8). The works of the Devil are Sin, Sickness and Disease, Fear, oppression, and Satan himself. Jesus defeated Satan during His Wilderness Temptation. He used the Word of God to defeat the devil! Repeatedly, He stated, “It is Written” speaking the Word of God. (Luke 4:12)

JESUS’ MISSION STATEMENT

After defeating the devil, He began his powerful Ministry of preaching repentance, healing the sick, and casting out evil spirits: “And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee; and there went out a fame of Him through all the region round about. And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

“And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as His custom was, He went into the synagogue and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto Him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when He opened the book, He found the place where it was written,

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me because He hath anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to HEAL the brokenhearted, to preach Deliverance to the captives, and recovering sight to the blind, to set at, liberty them that are bruised. To preach the Acceptable Year of the Lord.” (Luke 4: 14-19)

JESUS CHRIST IS THE ANSWER

Christ is the Answer to the questions and problems of life! WHY? He created the world. He created man and when Adam fell, He rescued man by giving Himself freely through His death to make us Children of God. By rising from the dead and pouring out the Holy Spirit on His church, He offered liberty and freedom to lost humanity!

Jesus bore our sins and sicknesses in His own body on the cursed Tree, so that we do not need to bare them! He took our place on the cross as our substitute. The Bible states: “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth; Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened  not;  but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously:

“Who His own Self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes we were Healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.” (1 Peter 22-25)

JESUS! His name in Hebrew means, ‘The salvation of God’. The salvation of God is forgiveness of sins, healing for the sick, wounded spirits, tormented minds, and broken bodies. It is Eternal Life!

Satan is a Defeated Foe, a vanquished Enemy, but nevertheless, a ruthless Tyrant who uses every opportunely to advance his lying agenda of hatred, fear, violence, sickness, disease, and death! He has been soundly and eternally defeated by our Lord Jesus Christ, who purchased our Freedom from the powers of Darkness by meeting the righteous demands of Divine Justice in the Courts of Heaven!

When Jesus Christ was crucified, we were crucified with Him. St. Paul wrote:  “I am crucified with Christ.” (Gal.2:20); “Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ.” (Col.2;20). When Jesus Christ was buried, we were buried with Him.” (Col.2:12; Rom.6;6).

When Jesus Christ arose from the dead as the Mighty Conqueror, we arose with Him. (Col. 3:1; Rom.6: 4. 5). The Bible  says,” Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us  together with Christ; and hath been raised us up TOGETHER in Heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” (Eph.2: 5,6)

“We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:10). Through Jesus Christ, God has made us a New Creation. Again the Scripture states: If any man be in Christ, he is a NEW CREATURE; Old things are passed away, behold all things are become New.” (2 Cor. 5:17)

It is Finished; It is Fulfilled; It is Paid!

“When Jesus therefore  had received the vinegar, He said, It is FINISHED: and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost.” (John 19:30)

Jesus spoke in the Greek language. The word He said was ‘Tetelestai’, taken from the Gr. verb teleo which essentially has three meanings: ‘To finish something and put an end to something; to fulfill something; to pay for that which is owed.’

Jesus had finished His plan of Redemption and He had put an end to Satan’s power over mankind. He had fulfilled every Old Testament Prophecy about the Messiah. He had paid for the sins and the sicknesses of the entire world, for all who would receive Him as Saviour and Lord!

SAUL MEETS JESUS ON THE DAMASCUS WAY

St. Paul, who had been a Zionist enforcer and kidnapper, was forcibly subdued and converted by Jesus Christ on the Damascus Road! He was a special vessel that God had chosen to evangelize the pagan and to build the Church in the Gentile world!

“And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, and desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of This Way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

“And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined about him a light from Heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice, saying unto him, Saul, Daul, why persecutest Me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am JESUS whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

“And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt Thou have me do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be shown thee what thou must do. And he was three days without sight, neither did eat nor drink.” Acts 9:1-6,9)

St. Paul, who founded Christ’s Church in the Gentile world wrote at the end of his long, powerful, and miraculous Ministry: “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

“Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love Hi appearing." (2 Tim.4: 6-8)

He came to earth the Promise to fulfill. A rugged cross He bore up Calvary’s Hill. And for my sins, He cried, “Father forgive, I came to die. Born to die, a cruel cross to bare. Born to die, His everlasting love to share. Between two thieves, He bowed His head and cried, It’s finished now, I came to die!

                                                        I AM SAVED:

HOW CAN WE KNOW?

By Pastor Max Solbrekken, D.D.

You may ask: “How can we know that we are saved, born-again, and ready for Heaven? Here are some of the ways that we can know for sure that we belong to Jesus Christ and are saved eternally.”

 1. By the Witness of the Holy Spirit

“He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made Him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of His Son.” (1 John 5: 10). The Spirit Himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” (Rom.8: 16)

“If ye love Me keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of Truth; Whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him; but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless. I will come unto you.” (John 14:15-18)

“There is therefore no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

“But if that same Spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead, dwell in you, He that raised up JESUS from the dead shall also quicken (make life in) your mortal bodies by His Spirit that liveth in you.” (Rom. 8: 1,2,9-11)

2. By the Authority of the Holy Scriptures!

“But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” (2 Tim.3:14-16)

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Rom.10: 9,10)

“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” (1 Tim.4: 16)

 3. By a Changed Life!

“Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Cor.5: 17).

Everything becomes new when we put our trust in Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour! We receive a new NATURE, new DESIRES, new GOALS, and a totally new LIFESTYLE!

The Bible affirms this great truth: “According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the DIVINE NATURE having escape the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1: 3,4)

4. By a New Love for God, His Word & His Church!

God – “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.” (Matt.22: 37); “We love Him, because He first loved us.” (1 John 4: 19).

His Word – “O how I love Thy law! It is my meditation all the day.” (Psalm 119: 97).

His Church – “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Heb.10: 25)

5. By our Love for the Brethren!

“A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one another.” (John 13: 34-35)

“In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

"For this is the message that ye have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that Wicked One, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.

“We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us: And we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” (1 John 3: 10-14, 16)

6. Because He has given us the Holy Spirit!

Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He hath given us of His Spirit.” (1 John 4: 13).  “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?” (Luke 11: 13)

“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on Me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. But this He spake of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.” (John 7: 37-39)

“And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of Truth: Whom the world cannot receive because it seeth Him not, neither knoweth Him: but ye know Him; for He dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” (John 13: 16-18)

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, Whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14: 26)

"But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead, shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear: but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit Himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” (John 11,14-16)

7. By our Confession of Christ as Saviour!

“Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of Antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come: and even now already is it in the world.

“And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. ” (1 John 4: 2,3,13);

“And they overcame him by the BLOOD of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony: and they loved not their lives unto the death.” (Rev.12: 11); “And that no man can say that Jesus is Lord but by the Holy Ghost.” (1 Cor.12: 3)

8. By the Burden for Lost Souls!

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Mark 8: 36-37);

“And He (Jesus) said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. He that believeth not shall be damned.” (Mark 16: 15-16)

“Brethren my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be SAVED. How then shall they call on Him in Whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?

“And how shall they preach except they be sent? as it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” (Rom. 10: 1,13-15)

9. By the Chastisement of the Lord!

"For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the Father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.” (Heb.12: 6-8)

10. By our Hatred of Sin & Evil!

 “Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: He preserveth the souls of His saints; he delivereth them out of his saints; He delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.” (Psalms 97: 10);

“O how I love Thy law! It is my meditation all the day. Thy Word is true from the beginning: and every one of Thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.” (Psalms 119: 97, 160). “Through Thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. I hate and abhor lying: but Thy law do I love.” (Psalms119: 104,163)

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (1 John 2: 15-17)

“I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should become a castaway.” (1 Cor.9: 26,27)

11. By a Love of the Truth!

“Jesus said, I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man cometh unto the Father but by Me.” (John 14: 6); “And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. For if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.” (1 John 3: 19,20)

“But speaking the TRUTH in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, even Christ. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man TRUTH with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.” (Eph.4: 15,25)

 “All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.” (Psalms 25: 10); “His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” (Psalms 91: 4); “Buy the truth and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.” (Psalms 23: 23); “For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.” (2 Cor.13: 8);

“For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.” (Eph.5: 9); “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Stand therefore having your loins girt about with TRUTH...” (Eph. 6: 13-14)

"Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.” (2 Tim.2: 15);

“Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof; from such turn away. Ever learning, and never able to come unto the knowledge of the truth...so do these also resist the TRUTH, men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.” (2 Tim.5,7,8)

12. By our Longing for Christ’s Return!

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, Who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye appear with Him in glory.” (Col.3: 2-4)

“And when the Chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.” (2 Peter 5: 4); “That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth , though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ.

“Whom having not seen, ye love; in Whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.” (1 Peter 1: 7,8); “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many: and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” (Heb.9:28)

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared unto all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that BLESSED HOPE, and the glorious appearing of the Great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2: 11-14)

WE KNOW WHO WE ARE IN CHRIST!

We who have received Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour can KNOW that we KNOW, that we are BORN AGAIN and baptized into the 'Body of Christ’! We were immediately grafted into the Vine, became “children of God” and “heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ”!

And when we received the 'Baptism of the Holy Ghost’, we were sealed with that 'Holy Spirit of Promise’! And for as long as we remain faithful in believing that Jesus is the Christ the Son of the living God, “No man can pluck us out of the Father’s hand."

Our salvation is personally guaranteed by our Lord Himself. The Bible states emphatically that the Blessed Holy Spirit is the Guarantor of our salvation until He returns for us in the rapture of the Church or the hour of our departure from this life through death into His eternal presence! Read these eternal promises from His Holy Word and rejoice in them:

My sheep hear hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. My Father which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand.” (John 10: 27-29)

“In Whom also we have obtained an INHERITANCE, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things after the counsel of His own will: that we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ.

“In Whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the Word of Truth, the gospel of your salvation: in Whom also after that ye believed, ye were SEALED with that Holy Spirit of Promise, which is the EARNEST (down payment) of our inheritance UNTIL the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory.” (Eph.1: 11-14)

“And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are SEALED unto the Day of Redemption.” (Eph.4: 30)

 THREE QUESTIONS ARISE!

Who or what is the “purchased possession” that is to be sealed? Believers in Christ are His possession whom He has purchased with His precious blood. We are the purchased possession!

The day of redemption for us is the moment we stand in His presence at death or the rapture of His Church. Our inheritance is ETERNAL LIFE with our Blessed Lord and all the redeemed of all ages! Hallelujah!

Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which He hath purchased with His own BLOOD.” (Acts 20: 28)

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Cor.6: 19,20)

“And hereby we do KNOW that we KNOW Him, if we keep His commandments. He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His Word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby KNOW we that we are in Him. He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.” (1 John 2: 3-6)

“For ye are all the children of God by faith in Jesus Christ. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” (Gal.3: 26,27; 4: 6,7)

But if the Spirit of Him (Almighty God) that raised Christ from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you.

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

“The Spirit Himself witnesses with our spirit that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed is us.” (Rom.8: 11, 14-18)

May God richly bless you and keep you in His perfect will and in His tender loving care, my precious brother and sister in Christ! Amen.

                                                IF GOD IS A CRUTCH,

LET ME HAVE TWO!

by Pastor Max Solbrekken, D.D.

Are religious experiences only for weak-minded people?  Is reading the Bible and praying really a waste of time?  And is God only a convenient crutch for failures?

Some people refer to devout Christians as “dupes” who have been brain-washed by the church or “hood-winked by preachers”.  Others feel it is a sign of weakness to express one’s faith in Jesus Christ and trust in God.  They call the Christian experience “a crutch”.

 RELIGION - A PRIVATE MATTER?

Still, others say, “My religion is a private matter - I don’t discuss my faith publicly”. This reminds me of an ancient legend told among the American Cheyenne Indians, who lived in an isolated village on the edge of a forest.

It was routine practice for the adults to sneak out of the village, one by one, and follow a path through the forest, to a little silvery stream.

Making sure no one was watching they would walk over the stream on a little log, made smooth by many moccasins, peer into the water at their own reflection, and begin to talk to the stream, pouring out their innermost feelings.  Doing this made them feel good.

Although all the adults made the secret pilgrimage regularly, no one told anyone about it:  However, everyone knew that they all did it.

One day, two children from the village found the pathway and the little stream.  Walking out on the log, they saw their reflection in the water and found themselves talking to the stream, and it made them also feel very good.

Full of joy at this new experience, they rushed back to the village to tell the adults what had happened.  But the adults were offended and felt threatened.  They picked up stones and chased the children out of the village.

The moral of the legend, according to the Cheyenne, is that everyone needs to talk to someone...but since it is a sign of weakness to tell someone your innermost feelings, you dare not let anyone know.

We were created with a desire to talk and relate to others our deep hurts, desires, and problems, but with whom can we discuss them? Our fellow human beings are as weak as we are, with as many hang-ups and troubles as ourselves.

In the Indian legend, the Cheyenne saw their reflection moving in the water and thought it was a supernatural being - and poured out their heart in a form of prayer. But because they were a very proud tribe, they wouldn’t admit it publicly, much like us today.

WE PRAY TO OUR HEAVENLY FATHER!

We do not pray to the water, sun, moon, or stones, but to the living God who made us and all those objects. And praise be to our Heavenly Father, who hears and answers our prayers when we approach Him in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Recently a survey was done across the USA to ascertain who people turn to, when in a crisis.  Not surprisingly, the majority sought counsel, solace, and help from their personal friends, relatives, neighbours, and minister.  Very few received help from professional counsellors, psychologists or psychiatrists.

I think that tells us something.  It is far more effective to talk to someone who knows you well and who cares about your life than to a professional who is a stranger. And that is why pastors and other members of the Church are so important to us all when a crisis arises in our lives!

More and more, medical doctors are realizing that valium is not the remedy they believed it was a few years ago and that people's problems are often spiritually related.

One doctor, when asked by his hospital patients for sleeping pills, quietly asks, “Why don’t you read the Bible and pray, and then just relax”? Invariably they will fall asleep without needing the pills, says the wise doctor.

PRAYER IS A TWO-WAY STREET:  WE TALK TO GOD & HE SPEAKS TO US!

Prayer is a powerful stimulant as well as a great relaxant, depending on the need.  Prayer is a two-way street, with us talking to God and Him talking back to us, giving assurance, peace, and joy.

Jesus Christ said, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matt. 11:28)  Again He said, “Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” (Matt. 7:7-8)

Our Lord stated, “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.  For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matt. 18:19-20)

During 60 years of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I have witnessed outstanding answers to prayer,  with changed lives and miracles of healing, to God’s glory and the good of humanity!

ALL ABOUT CHRIST                                                                                                By Pastor Max Solbrekken D.D.

The Bible states, "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him, and without Him was not anything made, that was made. In Him was life; and the Life was the life of men.

"That was the True Light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world and the world was made by Him and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name.” (John 1:1- 4, 9-12)

Who is Jesus Christ of Nazareth?

What does His name mean? “Yeshua” is the Hebrew word for “Jesus.” This name means “to rescue, to save, or to deliver.”  His Name, therefore, means ‘The Salvation of God’. The Salvation of God is forgiveness of sins, healing of wounded spirits, tormented minds, and infirm bodies. It is Eternal Life!

The Salvation of God includes His Peace, Liberty, Freedom, and Joy! It means lost souls become children of God by His grace and mercy. It means that our Lord has given the Church His blessed Holy Spirit. Through the gifts of the Holy Spirit and in the Name of Jesus Christ, we have been given the power and authority to cast out evil spirits from those who are fettered and bound by Satan and his evil kingdom!

Jesus of Nazareth: True God from Eternity. True man by His incarnation and virgin birth. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, scourged, crucified, and died for the sins of the world. On the third day God raised Him from the dead and set Him on His own right hand, from whence He shall come and judge the quick an the dead!

Prophet Isaiah stated, “He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53: 4,5). St. Peter wrote, “Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by His stripes ye were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)

1. He is the Word of God

John used the Greek word Logos to describe Jesus: (In the beginning or before creation or the beginning of time). Logos means Word. Jesus is the Word, the spoken Word. He declares that Jesus, the Word, was with God, and was God."

The Mystery of the Triune God!

God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. All three persons are One God. Jesus said: "God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:24).

The Holy Spirit is the third Person in the Godhead. "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searchest the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God." (Rom 8:26-28)

Jesus Christ, the SON is the only member of the Godhead that takes on physical form. The Bible says: "Even the Mystery which hath been hidden from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to His saints. To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory

"For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power...Buried with Him in baptism,  wherein also ye are risen with Him through faith the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised Him the dead...

“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross. And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made  a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it." (Col. 2: 9 14,15,-12, 14, 15)

2. Jesus is the Eternal Son of God

"He was born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was, made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld  His glory, the glory as of the Only Begotten of the Father both of grace and truth." (John 1: 1-4; 9-14)

3. Jesus is the Creator of the world

"He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not. He came unto His own, and His own received Him not." (John 1:11)

4. Jesus is the Saviour of the world

"But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name." (John 1:12); “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” (John 3:36)

5. Jesus is the Life giver

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be Saved. He that believeth on  Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God,” (John 3:16-18)

6. Jesus is the Baptizer in the Holy Ghost and Fire

“John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water, but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.” (Luke 3:16):

“For John truly baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost shall come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem and Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

7. Jesus is our Soon Coming King

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In my Father’s House are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have called you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:1-3)

“And when He had spoken these things unto them, while they beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward Heaven as He went up, behold, two men in white apparel; which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into Heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into Heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven.” Acts 1: 9-11)

“Behold, I show you a Mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed; In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption and this mortal must put on immortality.” (1 Cor. 15:51,52)

                            GOD CARES FOR US

                                                      By Pastor Max Solbrekken, D.D.

Although the Lord God is compassionate, merciful, and patient, He also judges His people. The Scripture states that God is love, (1 John 4:8) and yet the same Bible warns that He is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:29) Again the Bible speaks of God as a lawgiver, (Isaiah 32:22) who demands divine justice, and yet declares the beautiful fact that Jesus Christ brought grace into this world. (John 1:17)

The Bible says that there are given to us great and precious promises that by these we might be partakers of the Divine nature. (II Peter 1:4). The Word of God that saves us and gives us eternal life (John 10:28) will be opened at the judgment and will condemn those who reject the Gospel of Christ. (Revelation 20:12) God has certain laws by which He operates and governs in the universe, as well as in heaven and upon earth. There are certain laws by which he saves or condemns.

THE LAWS OF GOD STILL EXIST

The same is true in the realm of physical healing. To His people He said, “If though wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.” (Exodus 15:26)

God’s law stated that if His people would serve and obey Him, He would heal and bless them. If they rebelled against His Word and broke their covenant with Him, His blessing and healing would depart and the curses which were reserved for God’s enemies would cleave unto them.

If there is a vacuum created by God’s absence in a life, the Devil fills that vacuum and places his curse upon them. When God’s protection is lifted off a life, there is an open door for torment, death, and destruction to enter.

The Bible says, “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return to my house from whence I came out; and when he is come he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.

“Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the first state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.” (Matthew 12:43 – 45)

THE GOODNESS OF GOD TRULY AMAZES ME!

How many times God has sustained us, protected us, and stopped the devil from harming us I will never know, but I do know that; “The angel of the Lord encampeth roundabout them that fear Him, and delivereth them.” (Psalms 34:7) “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.” (Isaiah 59:19)

Even though hell is a literal burning place of torment, the worst thing about it will be the ABSENCE OF GOD and the knowledge for those incarcerated, they will never feel His sweet presence again.

Sickness and disease came into the world because of sin, and death followed because of sin. There was no sin, sickness, disease or death before the fall and there won’t be any after Satan is bound for 1,000 years during the millennium. (Revelation 20:2) Praise God!

The promises of God for His repentant, believing children as touching forgiveness and healing are numerous: “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved;” (Acts 2:21) “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest;” (Matthew 11:28)

“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved;” (Mark 16:16) “Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened;” (Matthew 7:7, 8)

“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)

“Believe Me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me: or else believe Me for the very works’ sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in My name, I will do it.” (John 14:11 – 14)

“Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” (James 5:14, 15)

WHATSOEVER SORE OR WHATSOEVER SICKNESS

Here is a powerful verse from the Old Testament taken from Solomon’s prayer during the dedication. “If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillars, if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land;

“Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when everyone shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house: Then hear Thou from heaven they dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart Thou knowest; (for Thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men)” (2 Chronicles 6:28 – 30)

Does God Really Care? God’s laws work in every area of our lives. Those who believe in the name of Jesus, repent of their sins and confess Him as Lord are saved. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness are filled. (Matthew 5:6) The baptism of the Holy Ghost is given to those who obey God and desire more of Him. (Acts 5:32)

Physical healing is as much a part of our inheritance (last will and testimony of Jesus Christ) and as much a part of the atonement as the forgiveness of sins. “For he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: (healing for our spirits) the chastisement of our peace was upon him; (healing for our minds or souls) and with his stripes we are healed.” (healing for our bodies) (Isaiah 53:5)

GOD PROSPERS HIS PEOPLE!

“Beloved, I wish above all things…” John was writing by the Holy Spirit. John’s will here was God’s will… “that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 2.) St. John, the beloved Pastor, wanted many good things for his flock. (God wants us to receive many good things too)

The three most important things were number one That they would prosper, number two – be in health, number three – that their souls would prosper. The first and second blessings were contingent upon the third, “even as thy soul prospereth.”

According to the spiritual blessing we receive from Christ, will determine how much physical, mental, and material blessing we will receive from Him. You may say, “I know of godly people who are sick and poor.” Godly people are not always rich in faith. Many people who lead good lives and trust Christ as Saviour MAY HAVE NOT trusted Him as Healer for their bodies or Baptizer in the Holy Ghost or Provider for their needs. You may ask why?

  1. Because they do not know the scriptures.
  2. Because they do not believe that God is interested in their problems, e.g. cancer, arthritis, poverty. (because of wrong teaching). God warns pastors who do not bring the truth of divine healing and God’s blessing to the people. Please read Ezekiel 34:2-5.
  3. They underestimate God’s power. “Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.” (Matthew 22:29)
  4. They do not appropriate God’s promises for themselves. It is always for those in Bible times or during the coming millennium, but not for today: “Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” (John 11:24) Jesus said however, “I am the resurrection, and the life;” Today! (John 11:25)
  5. They believe God chastises His children with foul cancer, evil spirits of insanity and crippling arthritis. They further believe that they are receiving a great blessing from their sickness when the Bible calls disease a plague, (Mark 5:34) and a curse. (Deuteronomy 28).

God is a million times better than we are and yet we would never put a curse or disease on any of our children to make them better or to chastise them!

  1. They believe that they are suffering for God’s glory, yet they run to doctors, clinics, and hospitals constantly. They have surgery and swallow innumerous pills to get rid of the blessing, but they have no faith for healing through prayer.
  2. There are three ways to get rid of poverty.
    1. Get a job.
    2. Begin to give to God’s work.
    3. Believe that God will prosper you according to His word when you give in faith.

The Word of God says, there are three things that He wants for His people more than anything else He could desire for them (3 John 2) Number one, spiritual prosperity – repentance, faith, love and joy, the baptism of the Holy Ghost, the gifts of the Spirit, the fruits of the Spirit and a burden for souls with fasting and prayer.

Number two, as we prosper spiritually, we will also be in health as we accept the Word of God regarding divine healing. Number three, then as we work hard, give to God’s work in faith believing, we will prosper financially and materially. Praise God.

The Bible states, “Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase: so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” (Proverbs 3:9, 10)

“And ye shall serve the Lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.” (Exodus 23:25) Jesus said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

St. Paul wrote, “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19). God’s Law of Sowing and Reaping, of Planting and Harvesting, and of Caring and Sharing Is Still Valid and Works Today!

Jesus said, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Luke 6:38)

Elijah said to the window woman, “but make me thereof a little cake first;” (I Kings 17:13) When she gave to God’s servant out of her need, God’s blessing came upon her unto life. (I Kings 17:15, 16) “Seek ye FIRST the kingdom of God; Give FIRST and it shall be given unto you; Honour the Lord with your substance and the FIRST FRUITS of all thine increase.”

WE SHARE BECAUSE WE CARE: Caring means sharing. We as Christians do not really care unless we are willing to share with others. Let us share the Gospel of Christ with the heathen of this world so that they may learn of Jesus, believe on His name and live.

MY PERSONAL TESTIMONY!

In 1958, I was given a wonderful vision by the Lord – here it is:

It was just after we had purchased our own first new car (before, I had driven company cars) and I had obtained a very good job earning several thousands of dollars a year more than I had been earning previously. My wife had just been converted to Christ and I was so happy for what God had done for me – as I lay in bed thinking about the goodness of God (my wife had already fallen asleep) suddenly I saw a vision. (whether I was asleep or not I cannot tell.

I saw a large silver tray with a very large bowl sitting in the middle of it. Then, as I continued watching I saw a clear, pure liquid resembling water, being poured into the bowl from up above and entering the bowl from every angle. I watched as the bowl filled up and I wondered if it would stop, but it kept on coming – over-flowing the bowl and filling the platter – I wondered “Would it stop then?” but it kept coming and overflowed the platter.

Then I heard a voice say, “Give and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.” I knew it was the voice of God and immediately I was wide awake – I knew God had spoken to me and that He was with me and that I would prosper. Ever since then God has blessed me.

When I was a commercial traveler, God helped me to always be one of the top salesmen. When I left my well-paying position, I still had the blessing of God. The Lord has helped me, led me and guided me, so that tens of thousands of souls have been brought to Christ through our ministry, and great numbers have received miracles of healing and deliverance through our prayers.

SEVEN REASONS WHY GOD WANTS TO BLESS US

1.      Because of His great love for mankind and especially for His children. (Matthew 15:26; 3 John 2)

2.      Because of His Word which He will fulfill and His promises which He is duty bound to keep. (Luke 6:38)

3.      Because of a definite law, both spiritual and physical which states, “you will reap what you sow, and the harvest will be greater than the seed planted.” (Genesis 8:22; Galatians 6:7, 8)

4.      Because we are His children and therefore, His responsibility. He wants us to have the best and since we are His advertising agents, I am sure that He wants to show the world that His gospel can accomplish and do in the lives of men. We are proof that the benefits of Calvary really work.

He certainly has the power to bless His people to the extent that we can represent Him properly. (Malachi 3:17; Philippians 4:19)

5.      Because of the testimony of the lives of men of God in times past.

a.      Abraham: “And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man could number the dust od the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.”  (Genesis 13:16)

b.      Job: “So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning ---So Job died being old and full of days.” (Job 42:12-17)

c.      Solomon: “That the Lord appeared unto Solomon…I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before Me, I have hallowed this house…”  (I Kings 9:3-5)

d.      Daniel: “… That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel…He delivereth and rescueth, and He worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions….so this Daniel prospered…” (Daniel 3:1 to 30: 6:1 to 28;)

6.      Because God has never changed, and we have proven His word to be true again and again when we give in faith. In my own life I have proven God honours our faith, answers our prayers and fulfills His word. Thousands of people have also proven the same thing!

7.      Because our Heavenly Father has promised to honour those who love and serve His Son Jesus Christ. My prayer is that many reading these words will be blessed abundantly with good health and His blessing!

“If any man serve Me let him follow Me; and where I am, there will My servant be: If any man serve Me, him will My Father honour.” (John 12:26)

8.      Because God wants His people to prosper so that they can use their money to help the poor and reach the lost with the glorious gospel of Christ before it is too late. Please note “the scripture cannot be broken.” (John 10:35)

Whatever Jesus said will come to pass. The laws of God are absolute and what you sow you will reap. When you give to God, there will be a return far greater than what you give. God is not a respector of persons and God is no man’s debtor.

In closing let me give you this scripture, “No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” (Psalms 84:11) And again, “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully… for God loveth a cheerful giver.” (II Corinthians 9:6, 7) Amen.
